2018 AXE Elite Hybrid: USABat vs USSSA HitTrax Results

We helped an 11yr old perform an experiment to explore the question; How much will his ball exit velocity and batted ball distance change when going from an 2018 AXE Elite Hybrid USAbat (Drop 5, 2-5/8” Barrel) to a 2018 AXE Elite Hybrid USSSA (Drop 5, 2-5/8” Barrel)?

Equipment:

Procedure:

All swings were taken of front toss by the 11 yr old hitter. The tests in the experiment consisted of 80 total swings (40 swings per bat), which were performed in eight blocks of 10-swings done in the following order ABBA BAAB. Swings with the USA bat were letter ‘A’,

Swings with the USSSA Bat were letter ‘B’.  For every swing exit velo, launch angle & ball distance were measured.

Results:

  • The hitter manage to produced average ball exit speed that was 1.98 MPH higher with the USSSA version of the 2018 AXE Elite Hybrid while the maximum ball exit speed that was 2.7 MPH higher.

  • The hitter was able to hit the ball farther with the USSSA version of the 2018 AXE Elite Hybrid (+16 feet in max. distance, +20.7 feet in avg. distance).

  • The average launch angle with the USA version of the bat was 24.7 degrees while the average launch angle with the USSSA version of the bat was 29.5 degrees.

According to the limited experiment data, it looks like the 11 yrs old hitter will be able to get better results with USSSA version of the 2018 AXE Elite Hybrid. Now, this data doesn’t mean that every hitter will experience similar performance improvement. However, this data help understand the kind of improvements in metrics that could be possible.
