Ball Launch Angle Measurement Comparison: FlightScope Mevo vs Video Analysis

In this experiment we wanted to verify how the FlightScope Mevo compares to video analysis in regards to measurement of launch angle.

Measurement Equipment:

  • Flightscope Mevo & Baseball App

  • Ion “The Game” video camera

  • Kinovea Software (Video Analysis)

Experiment Setup:

Notes:

1.Two hitters (10 & 11 yrs old) were used.

2.Measured the Launch Angle from 45 Hits of the Tee.

3. Video analysis was used as a reference (not necessary correct or exact).

4.Experiment was done to have a reference for future experiments & training.

Data:

Conclusions:

  • Average angle difference between the two measurement methods was approx. 3.2 degrees for positive launch angles.

  • Average angle difference between the two measurement methods was approx. 10.8 degrees for negative launch angles.

  • The higher difference in the negative angles could be an artifact of the test setup (e.g. need to revisit settings and height of the tee vs. the Mevo).

  • However, the objective of the experiment was to check if the FlightScope Mevo cold be used for future experiments/training to acquire data in a faster way. It was decided that it can be used to track hitters consistency/improvements.
