Baseball Hitting Experiment: Short vs Long Stride

We performed a hitting experiment with a 10 yr old hitter to see what would work better for him a short (no stride) or long stride.

Measurement Equipment:

Setup:

  1. FlightScope Mevo was placed 7 feet behind the hitter & down at the level of the ball on the tee.

  2. Zepp Baseball swing sensor was placed in the knob of the bat.

  3. Three cones were used to mark back foot placement, short stride (no stride), and long stride

  4. 30 Swings were performed for each stride.

Data:

Concluding Remarks:

1) When performing the experiment the hitter felt better when using a long stride. His feeling was that he was able to put more momentum into the swing.

2) Based on the Zepp swing sensor measurements the hitter was able to hit his swing goal more consistently when using a long stride.

3) Based on the FlightScope Mevo measurements the hitter was able to obtain better ball exit speed and launch angles results when using a long stride.

The objective of the experiment was to determine for an specific hitter if a short or long stride would work better. However, performing this experiment can be useful for any hitter trying to determine if they want to use a short (no stride) or a long stride.
