We asked a 10yr old hitter which bat would he expect a better performance from a $80 bat or a $260 bat? His response was the more expensive bat.
So we performed an experiment with the 10yr old to see if a more expensive USABat equate to an increase in ball exit velocity and batted ball distance.
Bats Used:
Equipment:
Setup:
Procedure:
All swings were taken of the tee by a 10 yr old hitter.
The tests in the experiment consisted of 40 total swings (20 swings per bat).
For every swing exit velo, launch angle & ball distance were measured.
Data:
Analysis/Conclusions:
The $80 bat produced average ball exit speed that was 2.2 MPH higher.
No significant difference observed in maximum exit speed, only 0.7MPH.
No significant difference observed in carry distance, only 1 Feet difference.
Based on the experiment data, both bat performed similarly when hitting from a tee. Now, this data doesn’t mean that this will hold true when hitting live pitches.
The $260 bat is a two piece composite that the hitter reported to feel better on the hands when the ball was not hit in the sweet spot.
Moreover, every hitter is different and under the same conditions and the specific bats used a different hitter may not be able to produce similar results with both bats.
